Explore the REGIONS

The Côte d’Azur is often spoken of as a single destination, yet in reality it is a collection of remarkably different regions, each with its own atmosphere, rhythm and way of life. Stretching from the Italian border to the quieter landscapes of the western Var, the French Riviera is far more diverse than many first-time visitors expect. Coastal glamour, hilltop villages, artistic heritage, Mediterranean nature and understated Provençal living all coexist within a relatively small part of Southern France.

From the elegance of the Riviera coastline surrounding Monaco to the peaceful inland scenery of the Var, every area offers a distinct perspective on life in the South of France. Some places are defined by waterfront living, beach clubs and marinas, while others are known for vineyards, olive groves, local markets and slower village life beneath the cypress trees. Certain regions have long attracted artists, architects and writers, while others are shaped by gastronomy, outdoor living and year-round sunshine.

The Cannes area, for example, combines international glamour with relaxed Mediterranean living and a coastline filled with sandy beaches, luxury villas and lively seaside towns. Around Nice, the atmosphere becomes more urban and cosmopolitan, blending Belle Époque architecture, culture, markets and city life with panoramic sea views and nearby hilltop villages. Further inland, places such as Mougins, Valbonne and Saint-Paul de Vence reveal another side of the Riviera altogether — one shaped by art galleries, pine forests, historic stone streets and a more discreet residential character.

The western part of the Côte d’Azur and the Var region offer yet another rhythm. Here, the coastline becomes more rugged and natural, with hidden coves, red Estérel cliffs, vineyards and quieter landscapes extending toward Provence. The Gulf of Saint-Tropez combines iconic Riviera energy with charming villages, beach life and countryside estates tucked away among umbrella pines and vineyards. Inland areas of the Var are often calmer still, appreciated for space, nature, authenticity and a slower pace of life.

For that reason, we have divided the Côte d’Azur into a number of regional guides. Whether you are exploring the lively energy of Cannes, the creative character of Saint-Paul de Vence, the sophistication of the Nice area, the elegance surrounding Monaco or the landscapes further west, each region tells a different story and appeals to different lifestyles and expectations.

These guides are intended to help visitors, future buyers and Riviera enthusiasts better understand the diversity of the Côte d’Azur — not only as a destination, but as a place to live, spend time and experience in different ways. Some people are drawn to the vibrant social atmosphere of the coast, others to the tranquillity of the hills, the architectural heritage of historic towns or the simple pleasure of Mediterranean outdoor living. By exploring the Riviera region by region, we hope to offer a more complete and nuanced perspective on one of Europe’s most fascinating coastlines.
